COURSE OVERVIEW

Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications.

Oral health therapists are qualified dental practitioners and experts in the field of oral disease prevention. They support people of all ages to achieve and maintain good oral health. Oral health therapists play an important role in the promotion of oral health for the broader community. Their role includes providing information on several topics for example the causes and prevention of tooth decay, gum disease, oral hygiene, and nutrition, and apply strategies to manage the prevention of tooth decay. Oral Health Therapists treat patients of all ages and their clinical responsibilities are diverse and include performing dental check-ups, dental radiographs, simple restorations, professional debridement of teeth, management of gum disease, provision of local analgesia, and a range of orthodontic supportive procedures. The curriculum integrates theory and practical studies within health, dental, biomedical, and social sciences.

Graduates of this course in Australia may be recognised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
Graduates of this course in Australia may be eligible for registration as an oral health therapist with the Dental Board of Australia
